Poirotcafe Signatures-reading by Crimson-Amarone

Since Fanfiction.net is not that great of an actual community site and some fans use other sites, like AO3, LJ and dA, another DCMK fanfic writer and I looked into a different solution to this lack of community for DCMK fanfic writers. We found an offsite forum provider and have created a forum called Poirot Cafe. The forum is done being set up, and now we are looking to gain new members! It is open to anyone and is free to join!

We are hoping to promote a more active and helpful place for fanfic writers and fans in general. Poirot Cafe aims to provide a better way for DC fanfic writers to meet and chat more than just reviewing on FFnet once and awhile. Also, we want to encourage a community that gives constructive feedback, offers beta-reading services, and provides resources for writing tips and information about the series. Writers will be able to find resources to help come up with ideas or help with writing stories—English tips, fiction-writing tips, etc. To keep it lively, we're going to try to have events and writing challenges too.

Please let me know if you are interested, what to know more, or if you have any questions. I hope to see you at Poirot Café!

If you want to check out the site, it is at poirotcafe.proboards.com.

847–849 Yumi’s Love Story

Meet Haneda Shuukichi. Has a developed solid background, and past relations. Not necessarily in hiding and could probably be easily be found with decent detective work.

Has a similar name to Shuuichi, shown to be extremely intelligent, AND notices Conan’s ability all in one case=huge red herrings if you ask me.

His name is supposed to be a play off of Hashiba Hideyoshi (same exact kanji) instead.

Also if Sera's nickname for Shuuichi is Shuu-nii then wouldn't that be a little confusing if Shuukichi is her other brother?

859–861 Bummer Brawn

Volume 81, File 9 (859): pgs 6-7: "Jeet Kune Do vs. Karate"

Sera says that her brother is in the middle of an important job and won't tell her where he is.

Sera is texting her middle brother. Sera asks, “This is him! Are you surprised?” Screen Shot 20140524 at 7.24.58 PM by Crimson-Amarone

We see him using his right hand here. Due to Gosho’s style, child hands tend to not look very childlike unfortunately, so it’s an ambiguous indicator of the age.  (To me it looks like younger person hands *shrug*)

Brother quickly responds, “If it’s him, there’s no problem.”

Sera is surprised and readers clearly know she is wondering how he knows Conan. So it is logical to guess that might be what she asked him in her next text.

Sera ASSUMES that her brother KNOWS Conan because of her thoughts in 861, making the readers also assume that he has met CONAN in specific.

This implicates that the brother has either met Conan before or has at least heard about him OR he knows/suspects Conan is Shinichi. If their family's or a few of them have met in the past, it wouldn't be unreasonable that both Sera and her brother met Shinichi when they were younger. Since he is 10 years older then them, it's likely he'd easily remember Shinichi's childlike face. I think these characters have such as easy time linking the two because they hadn't experienced growing up with him and seeing him age like all the characters who've been a constant in Shinichi's life.

At the end Sera gets another message and she thinks “Oh so THAT’s how it is…”

If the question Sera asked was “How do you know him?” or something like that, I’m sure there’s plenty of explanations he could give her without him giving away that he figured out Shinichi is Conan just then from the photo. If he actually revealed anything here, Sera would definitely have looked ten times more shocked.

But his PS asks her, “Have you already met the wizard?”

So Sera’s brother knows she is looking for Shinichi/the Wizard. She hasn’t mentioned before that she has been out beaten in her deductions prior to this by Conan and has only been asking for her brother’s support. And Sera obviously hasn’t told him that Shinichi is now Conan because she was surprised her brother recognized Conan in the first place.

We don’t see Sera’s further conversation with her brother after this where he reveals to her anything else and that he finally allows them to meet in person by the Love Novelist Case.

872-875 Red Woman Case

Sera says her brother's "too busy" to take the case. If he's the child it'd be obvious he couldn't take the case and Sera knows at this point the real reason so she's making excuses for him. Sera oddly stress that she is a "female high school detective" at this time too. Currently the brother has a different last name than Sera or Akai apparently, which changed after high school.

We find out that Sera’s brother’s classmates are 28-29. So the middle brother is likely that age too.

At the end with the phone picture of the child, Conan automatically thinks its a girl. Going back to the end of the Fruits Murder Case and the Love Novelist Case, it seems like Sera wants to Conan to remember her really badly but doesn't want to tell him herself. Now she's given him more clues by showing him the picture of the child. Either she's hoping Conan recognizes the child too or just wants him curious as to what their relationship is knowing she gave away plenty of information about her family by this point.

My biggest question is why is the child in a bed??

876-878 Love Novelist

Sera admits that her mother is still in America. So if she is lying this is a huge reader misdirection, which isn’t likely. On the other hand Sera seems certain that her middle brother is living in Japan but wouldn’t let her live with him.

Sera also specifically states that she is relying financially on her father’s friend and that she has no other relative that she could count on. Again lies about other family ties would be too much of a reader misdirection.

Conan obviously questions if Sera knows no other relatives, who was that GIRL? Would he come to a conclusion sooner if he didn’t assume the child was a girl?

Sera then cancels her meeting with her brother after Sonoko invites themselves to her hotel room. Sera gives away that she is NOW able to meet with her brother after the last cases saying she doesn’t know where to find her brother.

I get the feeling Conan reacts to Sera mentioning this because he remembers her saying as much.

Sera says she is planning to move out of her apartment (again) soon. Why? Moving to where her brother lives? This is her brother’s room? This isn’t her actual room?

Sera prevents Conan from going into the bedroom because mystery child is hiding inside?

Conan drops his backpack in front of Sera’s door and we see the child coming out? Did the child take a look at Conan’s stuff for clues? Then child left the room? I think it’s doubtful they were interested in the murder case, and I’d imagine that they don’t particularly want to be seen much in public, so that leaves them highly interesting in watching Conan working the investigation.

Child seems intelligent, admitting that they are familiar with surveillance devices. Perhaps some kind of electrical engineer or similar field of expertise. This might explain the choice for Okiya's cover story as an engineering student as well, making it not so random after all. But we have been shown that Akai is familiar with things such as hacking which is related on it's own.

Child coughin g a lot indicative of:
1. an illness (one of few reasons why Sera might refer to Shuu as “strong” in opposition) Could explain why the first image we see of the child on the phone is of the lying in bed.
2. a throat irritation often seem from straining their vocal chords to change their voice. If they were a middle-age boy it is more likely that their voice is more distinguishable as being male so they’d have to force a girly sounding voice.

It is possible that the child overhead Conan describe them as a girl so she's just going along with that until further developments. That's why they'd might say for Sera to address them as sister.

Overall I feel with how much more relevant the middle brother is at this point and the lacking information we have about the mother (all we know is Masumi and her brother Shuuichi presumably more closely resemble their mother than their father, her mother has big boobs, and is said to live in America ), that having both characters involved is a bit extraneous.

If the child is the brother, I’m guessing the father is at least half Caucasian, possibly American or British. This is why the middle brother has light-colored, maybe even blonde hair (unless of course that’s a wig which I hope isn’t the case -.-). Moreover, this is why Sera thinks the middle brother doesn’t resemble the rest of them. I feel like Japanese would be much more sensitive over natural hair color rather than eyes (which I feel like are more of an art aesthetic that the readers are critical of than the actual characters). We’ve seen this before with Haibara and Fusae Campbell, while I don’t recall characters ever specifically mentioning the similar eyes of Eisuke and Hidemi/Rena. I think the look of their eyes does however come from their mother, but all three siblings share this trait.

With the father being part British, I also think this is how he might have a connection with James Black—whether he was involved with the FBI or not.

So why is the child possibly a shrunk relative? If we are to believe that Sera and her mom have actually been in America within the last year—most likely under Witness Protection Program—and that her mother is still in America and actually didn't come over to Japan before or with Sera, than that leaves the brother the only relative living freely in Japan. As far as we know, if he has been in Japan he was NOT placed in WPP. After the BO found out Akai was FBI I believe they did go after his family. I'm not sure if the father has been dead before these events or not so I can't say if he was targeted by the BO. We also know that Akai himself has been targeted many times because of what James said in chapter 600 pg 8. If the BO went after his brother and did find him it could have been within the last year probably after Haibara escaped. He might have been smart enough to avoid them for as long as he did assuming he was informed, probably by the FBI/James/Akai himself that he'd been found out and his family might be endangered. If his luck ran out eventually... well, the child got shrunk somehow either way if that part of theory is correct.

Assuming they were APTX'ed and not shrunk with some other drug, we have to conclude that Gosho is not sticking with Haibara's very early statement that APTX will reduce someone to 7 years old only. This plothole is worrisome for us speculating, but I think it might be an unfortunate oversight on Gosho's or his editors' part. While it is possible there's something else going on with this, I really can't say without making up too large of a baseless theory.

Completely out-there theory:

I think there is a small possibility that the middle brother and Shuuichi are fraternal twins. Since they aren't identical I can only rely on the fact that we don't know their exact age. We know the middle brother's classmates are 28-29 so if we assume he is around that age, Shuuichi would have to be at least 29-30+ to be older and not a twin. While Okiya's age is said to be 27, if he really is older, that age is a lie either way, so it might be safe to say he's 29-30+ and therefore they're not twins at all. It's also possible that the middle brother was an underclassmen to those other students but that seems very unlikely.

Also, 2nd brother=2nd Char Anzable anyone?
